FAMILY PODIATRY CARE:

Podiatrist Mark Reed, DPM has more than 29 years of experience treating more than 25,000 patients to achieve excellent results in the management of foot and ankle problems that affect each member of the family.  Commonly treated foot and ankle problems would include:
  •  Ingrown nails, fungus nails, warts, corns, callouses and dry skin.
  •  Different musculoskeletal problems such as infant tripping, flat or high arched feet or in- toeing, joint pain, joint misalignments, plantar fasciitis, bunion deformities, hammer toes, and osteoarthritis.
  • Traumatic injuries from sports such as ankle sprains, toe crushing injuries, dislocations, muscle strains, bursitis and tendonitis.
  • Endocrine problems such as gout or diabetic foot complications including ulcers.
As with all conditions, non-surgical medical treatment is emphasized and surgery is recommended for treatment as a last resort. When surgery is required, each podiatrist is highly skilled and has performed thousands of successful procedures over the years.

 DIABETIC FOOT CARE:

Dr. Reed has received advanced training in managing podiatry foot complications related to diabetes. While a resident at UCSF / San Francisco Veterans Administration Hospital, Dr. Reed was on the special multi-specialty medical team for diabetic patients with limb and life threatening leg or foot wounds.  Since this experience, Dr. Reed has gained considerable expertise in managing and curing diabetic ulcers and related diabetic complications while in practice. For a guideline concerning foot care for the diabetic - Read More Here. Our podiatrists also participate in the Medicare Diabetic Shoe program and proudly carry Anodyne shoes.  For patients, there are no better quality diabetic shoes on the market that are paid for by Medicare for those Diabetic patients who meet established Medicare guidelines.  In many cases, PPO insurances also cover diabetic shoes, and the office staff would be happy to verify if insurance is covered for diabetic shoes.  Diabetic shoes are paid for by Medicare on a calendar year basis and all diabetic patients with neuropathy are encouraged to take advantage of the Medicare Diabetic shoe program that has been proven to prevent ulcerations and limb threatening infections.

WOMEN'S FOOT CARE:

Women have special foot needs due to the unique shape and design of a woman's foot. When a woman has a foot or ankle problem, Dr. Reed tailors their medical care with specific cosmetic and functional considerations with a woman in mind, with special emphasis on minimal scar formation and minimal pain during recovery.  All procedures are designed to enhance aesthetics with plastic surgical closures on the skin's surface, and with absorbable sutures placed under the skin to insure the very best cosmetic result and smallest scar that can be achieved.

SPORTS MEDICINE:

Podiatrists Dr. Reed has helped many aspiring athletes, both young and old, to achieve their athletic objectives in overcoming a sports-related injury.  In addition, the Podiatrists have helped improve performance and resolve many common sports injuries in just about every sport on the planet, from youth sports to even many top professional athletes.  In treating athletes, treatment plans are tailored to each sport and a timetable is created based on priorities as required for rehabilitation for optimal athletic performance.  Dr. Reed was an All-American collegiate water polo player and Pacific Coast Conference first team all-conference player while at California State University, Los Angeles.  Dr. Reed continues to be a competitive master swimmer and water polo player. Dr. Reed is also an avid runner who in college ran a 4:15 mile and has completed a few marathons over the years.  Dr. Reed has been involved with providing medical consultation and intervention for the Esperanza High School and now new Yorba Linda High School Football Teams.

ACCIDENTS / TRAUMA:

Dr. Reed is experienced in managing foot and ankle injuries and emergencies. Dr. Reed is on-call at the Placentia-Linda Hospital Emergency Room and have treated many patients over the years for acute traumatic injuries or infections through the ER. In many cases, Dr. Reed is the preferred podiatrist for referral after the patient has been discharged from the Emergency Room or Urgent Care Facility.  In many cases, emergency foot and ankle problems can be treated at the doctor's office as a same-day urgent appointment with in-office X-rays for a prompt diagnosis, instead of waiting hours at the ER or Urgent Care facility.

SECOND SURGICAL OPINIONS:

If you are thinking about foot and ankle surgery but need a second opinion, Dr. Reed will provide an honest and straight forward assessment of your medical diagnosis and your treatment options will be covered as to benefits and potential complications.  Dr. Reed is a highly skilled surgeon with top credentials.  Due to more than 30+ years of experience, Dr. Reed emphasizes conservative care first and surgery only as a last resort.  During the course of obtaining a second surgical opinion, Dr. Reed will conduct a thorough history and physical examination and provide a thorough explanation of your medical diagnosis as well as what treatment options the patient might have, both from a surgical and non-surgical standpoint. The second surgical opinion that will be provided will truly be an independent opinion and not just a rubber stamp of the original surgeon's recommendations. Typically, one hour is spent with the podiatrist for a second opinion consultation.

WORKER'S COMPENSATION:

Podiatrists Dr. Reed has treated thousands of patients with work related injuries and understands the worker's compensation system.  If it has been longer than 30 days since your injury at work, you are entitled to switch and designate a new treating doctor.  In seeking treatment for your work-related injury, the staff at the office will take care of all of the required billing and reporting requirements.  Dr. Reed emphasizes the rights of patients first in focusing on rehabilitation and resolving your work-related injury.

HMO 2ND OPINIONS:

Due to the many limits placed on being an HMO patient in being referred to a Podiatrist, it can take months to see a specialist.  The benefit of an independent second opinion by Dr. Reed is that the Podiatrist will write a report and / or contact the Specialist on Call for the HMO, such as the Podiatrist or Orthopedic Surgeon.  In many cases, the patient is then urgently seen by the HMO Specialist due to the finding and treatment recommendations made by Dr. Reed.
